RESIDENTS are in for a treat at the next Launceston FLIC event, as James Hawes’ One Life takes to the screen.

The ‘Based on a true story’ subheading has surged in popularity in recent years, with the likes of the block-busting Oppenheimer, Austin Butler’s hip-shaking Elvis, and even the popularity of Netflix’s royal drama The Crown gripping audiences with their dramatic re-telling of real stories.

One Life, which is set to screen at FLIC, does exactly that. Telling the extraordinary story of Sir Nicholas ‘Nicky’ Winton (Anthony Hopkins), a young London broker who, in the months leading up to World War II, rescued more 600 children from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia.

Fifty years on, Nicky lives haunted by what could have been, pondering over the fate of the children he was unable to save.

It's not until the live BBC television show, 'That's Life', surprises him by reintroducing him to some of those very children, that he finally begins to come to terms with the guilt and grief he had carried for five decades.

A touching story and one not to be missed.

Showing at Launceston Town Hall on Friday, May 3.
