A LAUNCESTON Scout has won a place at the World Jamboree and is now off to South Korea!
First Launceston Explorer Scout group are “really proud” of the huge efforts and success of Arthur Ivey, pictured.
Following a gruelling selection process, Arthur was chosen from a large number of Cornish hopefuls to represent British Scouting at the World Jamboree in South Korea this summer.
A spokesperson said: “It’s a massive honour for Launceston Scouting and a reflection of Arthur’s qualities.”
But the challenge doesn’t stop there: Arthur has had to fundraise £4,000 to support World Jamboree and fund his travel. He has worked tirelessly running duck races, cream teas, market stalls and has almost hit his target.
He achieved all this alongside studying for his GCSE exams.
A very fine woodturner, Arthur’s final push is with a stall at the Community Market in Central Methodist Church on Friday 14th April, 9.30am til 1pm.
The spokesperson added: “Come and see the beautiful pieces this amazing 16-year-old creates, and help support his last few hundred pounds!”
Explorer Scouts will be on hand for information about World Jamboree and UK Scouting for all young people aged four to 18.
