A new ATM machine has been fitted in Holsworthy Post Office following the loss of its final bank.
Over the years, several of Holsworthy’s banks have shut including Barclays, Lloyds, Natwest with HSBC due to close.
But, much to local residents’ delight, a new free cash withdrawal machine has been installed just outside the Post Office.
Cllr Nigel Kenneally, Holsworthy town mayor, commented: “As the mayor I was disappointed to see the closure of Holsworthy’s last bank and subsequent removal of the last 24hr cash machine in the town centre, however as is often the way in Holsworthy, a local businessman has stepped up to the plate and installed a new 24hr free cashpoint, providing a much needed service for the people of Holsworthy. And even though HSBC may have left the town the post office can look after most of your banking needs. I must say a huge congratulations to Andrew and his team.”
The ATM has been set up by LINK, the UK’s largest cash machine network.
Adrian Roberts, chief commercial officer at LINK, explained: “While more and more people are embracing digital payments, there are still millions of us who either need or prefer to use cash. LINK is committed to maintaining free access to cash across the country through ATMs, such as the one in Holsworthy Post Office, for as long as it is needed.”
As the Post went to print the mayor Cllr Kenneally along with the Town Crier Roger Dunstan were due to officially open the new ATM.
