A LAY Canon who once represented Cornwall on the national assembly of the Church of England has celebrated her 90th birthday.

Hilda Walter of Widemouth Bay celebrated her birthday at home with her large family on Easter Sunday. Mrs Walter, originally from Fowey, moved to Bude just after the Second World War and married Bob Walter, a Bude auctioneer and estate agent. They lived at the Villa, Bude — now Locke and Preston veterinary practice — for 35 years then retired to Widemouth Bay where they have been for 33 years.
