A FIT young man who suffered a cardiac arrest last year is helping to raise awareness of Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), with a recent beetle drive raising more than £650.
The beetle drive at Morwenstow Community Centre on November 25 was supported by 76 people aged from five to 80, including Brad Olde.
Brad was 20 when he had a cardiac arrest in 2015, a fit young man with no previous symptoms collapsed one day and sustained a hypoxic brain injury, which resulted in a life changing condition.
Although he is progressing well his aim is to make people aware of how important screening is, as only one in ten people survive a cardiac arrest.
At the recent beetle drive there was a lot of laughter as people created their beetle and after six games there was a short interval of tea and cake plus putting a name to the snowman, how many pennies in a jar and the raffle.
They then commenced for a further six games where people frantically threw dice to make up their winning beetle, making it a fun evening for all.
In all a staggering £655.13 was raised.
This has been donated to the Martyn Luckett Memorial Fund.
Martyn Luckett’s parents Brenda and John work tirelessly raising money each year to fund screening for young people between the age of 14 and 35. The next screening test will be at Budehaven in March 2017.
A cheque was recently presented by Brad and his mum, Sharon, to Brenda Luckett.
Thanks were expressed to Bridgemans, Gilbert and Vanstone of Kilkhampton and all the many other people who donated money, raffle prizes, cakes and supported this event.
