A Bude-Stratton town councillor has been elected chair of Bude and District Age Concern.
Speaking after last week’s AGM, Kevin Colwill said: “Lots of people don’t realise we are very much a local charity. The money we raise here in Bude is all spent helping the over 50s in our area.
“Tim Benson, the outgoing chairman, will be a very hard act to follow. He left us in great shape after our move from the cramped shop on Queen Street to much better premises on Princes Street.
“Our most urgent need is for drivers to take people to doctors and hospital appointments. We live in a fantastic area but poor transport links pose a huge challenge.
“We hate turning any one away because we don’t have a driver available to take them to hospital.
“If you can help by volunteering, even if it’s just a few hours a week or one day a month, then we’d love to hear from you. Age Concern ensures driver’s expenses are covered and it’s a great way to give something back to the community.”
If anyone thinks they can help they are asked to email [email protected] or just pop into the shop.
