MEMBERS of Bude Memory Cafe enjoyed a chuffing time recently after they took a trip to Bodmin Steam Railway.

At the end of August, 55 Bude Memory Café guests and volunteers enjoyed a wonderful afternoon out riding on the Bodmin and Wenford Steam Railway. There was great excitement as the group waited at the old Bodmin Station.

The steam engine finally arrived and guests boarded the old carriages. Some guests were not so mobile and needed a bit of help, however everyone was soon aboard and all enjoyed tucking into a cream tea whilst the world slowly passed by. “Mind the gap” was probably the phrase of the day!

A spokesperson from the cafe said: “This trip was made possible thanks to the very generous donations made to the Memory Café this year from the kind people of Bude and the surrounding area: donations from Bude Golf Club, Kilkhampton Churches, The Kings Arms, Bude Social Club, Bude Bowling Club, The Coast Family Church and a donation from a funeral.

“Our funds allow us to invite lots of talented performers to our Memory Café get-togethers and we aim to provide afternoons of fun and socialising for those with memory loss and, just as importantly, for their carers.”
