A Christmas celebration has been held in the Ukraine by a Launceston resident to help spread cheer to those caught in the ongoing conflict with Russia.
Jakub Jaworski, of Launceston, travelled to the Ukraine this year to support those who are still in the country amidst the continuing conflict.
Recently, alongside a group of others, Jakub was able to hold a Christmas celebration for families living in the area.
The event, which was held last week took place on the outskirts of Kharkiv Bolshoya Danilovka. Speaking to the Post, Jakub explained: “Russians were stationed here and from this place Kharkiv was attacked by bombs mortars, grenades etc.
“Heavy armoured vehicles including tanks were moving in those streets.”
Jakub plans to hold more events in the future to keep everyone’s spirits up.
He added: “On [December] 25, we’re having another Christmas party for more than 60 kids, all sorts of ages. We’re having that in ROST supermarket at Kievska subway station.
“I’m looking after people in the subway at Heroiv Pratsi, around 60 adults and three kids, they need food.”
In order to carry out his work, Jakub relies on donations to support residents of the area. To support his cause, go to: ko-fi.com/jakubinkharkiv
