A NORTH Cornwall town received a visit from residents of its daughter city of the same name, more than 10,000 miles away, this week.
Mayor of Launceston, Cornwall, Cllr Helen Bailey welcomed three visitors from Launceston, Tasmania, who came bearing gifts from the Aussie counterpart.
Robert Dusting, Garry Connelly and Robert Reynolds arranged to meet with the mayor and spent time talking about both the Cornish town and Tasmanian city.
The trio had visited back in 2017 and met with Cllr Brian Hogan, the then town mayor. Cllr Hogan was delighted to come along for a coffee to catch up with the three charming gentlemen.
Launceston, Tasmania, is very focused on green issues and the gift presented to Cllr Bailey included a printed cotton bag, Tasmania pins, a tie for the consort and a notebook made from recycled paper and a pen.
Cllr Bailey asked that a gift be taken back for mayor Cllr Matthew Garwood and a salver with the town crest is now on its way to Tasmania.
Cllr Bailey commented: “It was so kind of them to break from their holiday to call in and I, along with Cllr Hogan, signed the travel logbook Robert had with him.
“It was a pleasure to spend time with them and learn so much about their city and lifestyle.”
