CORNWALL Council has confirmed that the main road through a North Cornwall town will remain closed until further notice.
Fore Street in Camelford, the main A39 artery through the town which has been the subject of long-anticipated plans for bypassing over traffic concerns, has been closed since the partial collapse of a building over the weekend.
Motorists and residents have been diverted around the town since the road was closed onto the B3314 through Slaughterbridge and down the B3266, with the route also impacting accessibility to local businesses.
A spokesperson for Cornwall Council has said that it was working with the owner of the property, which was in a state of dereliction prior to the partial collapse, to make it stable again.
It further confirmed that the road would remain closed until this work had been completed.
A spokesperson for Cornwall Council said: “Cornwall Council is working with the property owner, who is responsible for making the building safe, to make sure this work is completed as soon as possible.
“The road will remain closed until we are satisfied that the property is in a safe condition and is of no risk to the general public.”
