Kivells at Hallworthy report on Thursday, December 22, a slightly reduced entry for their oven ready poultry sale, due to the slow trade in other centres earlier in the week.
Trade a lot stronger than expected. Geese sold to a high of £95 (15lbs) presented from RJ & CJ Matthews of Torpoint. Chickens off the same holding reached £34, followed by ducks at £32. Gammon joints made £30 from Mrs T Wakefield. Wagu Beef joints (Sirloin) made £58 for Mr P R Denton.
Turkeys sold to a high of £65 for RJ & CJ Matthews again. Very little Turkeys sold under £2/lb.
A cracking entry of draft ewes (368) and the trade didn’t disappoint, all ewes very much sought after, 21 pens over £120 to a top of £165 for a pen of 5 Texel Ewes from Winston Grigg of Trengune, Warbstow. Charollais Ewes from John Coleman of Poundstock sold to £149.
Suffolk x Ewes from Tom Earl of Ethy Barton, Lostwithiel sold to a top of £139. Tom also topped the Mules at £111. Hill Bred Ewes to £85.
Smaller entry of fat lambs (191) and a stronger trade overall average of 245.7p, well in line with the national average.
The well fleshed lambs sought after, ranging from 250p to a top of 257p for three pens of 42kgs from Chris Kent of Christa Court, Liskeard. Top per head was £116 for a pen of 46kgs from Rundle Weldhen of St Columb.
A very strong trade of store lambs (90) selling to a top of £89 from Capehope LTD, St Teath.
