CREWS battled for more than 30 hours to tackle a large barn fire in Lawhitton this weekend.
At 4.47am on July 13, Launceston Community Fire Station were called to reports of a fire in the open. On arrival crews discovered a barn full of bales to be well alight.
Following their arrival, a further six crews were called to assist with the situation. Crews from Callington Community Fire Station, Tavistock Fire Station, and a water carrier from Liskeard Community Fire Station were all mobilised.
As well as this, a welfare wagon from Torpoint Community Fire Station, and crews from Bodmin Community Fire Station and St Austell Community Fire Station were mobilised as relief crews.
Following the initial call out, crews from Launceston Fire Station were once again mobilised, some 20 hours after the initial 999 call, to continue monitoring throughout the night as a rotating relief crew.
Some 31 hours after the beginning of the incident, the nine stations involved managed to fully extinguish the blaze.
A spokesperson from Launceston’s fire station said: “The recent barn fire is now fully extinguished and handed back to the farmer. We managed to contain the fire to the one barn and prevent further spread to adjoining barns.
“Well done to all involved.”
