MEMBERS of Budehaven’s year 7 netball squad recently travelled to Camborne to compete in the annual County Netball Tournament.

The frosty early morning conditions soon gave way to a beautiful sunny day, which saw 24 teams across the county meet on the netball courts that had recently hosted the Regional Schools Netball round.

In Budehaven’s first round, they were drawn against Pool, Fowey, Mounts Bay and Penryn. Mounts Bay vs Budehaven was the first game, a game which always helps the team warm up for the rest of the tournament.

Budehaven won 6-5, a close game to start!

Fowey was the next team to play; this was a much more convincing win, with some great shooting, defensive interceptions and centre court work.

With a 12-1 victory under their belts, Bude went onto to play Pool; again, some good team work on the court saw another win with 10-5 to Budehaven.

The fourth game of the first section was the toughest match so far. Budehaven fought well to try and maintain possession and create opportunities for the shooters to shoot, but the final score was 7-2 to Penryn. Budehaven were runners-up in their section and then went through to the second round of games. A good start was made with wins against Wadebridge (6-2) and Redruth (6-0). The game against Brannel was more evenly matched, with the final score being 5-6 to Budehaven and Brannel narrowly achieving victory.

The final game, not only of Budehaven’s section but of the day, saw a rather tired and pink-faced team take to the court for the last time, despite the valiant efforts of the defence to get the ball to the attacking end, the final score was 2-5 to Richard Lander.

Overall, the team were 8th out of 24.
