Back with a bang, the committee were overjoyed when they received record entries for the return of Launceston’s long-awaited carnival.
Carnival committee chairman Dave Gordon told the Post: “From the committee’s perspective we were really pleased with Carnival.
“We have had a two-year enforced break due to COVID, and it was really reassuring that this year’s comeback proved to be so successful with over 50 entries. The crowds were bigger and everyone seemed to have a great evening.
“The committee will now take a good look at every aspect of the Carnival and start to make initial plans for 2023.
“It is certainly my hope that the 2023 Carnival will see even more floats and entries and help us to make Launceston Carnival the biggest and best in our area.”
There were several new attractions at this year’s event, including more competitions for the town to get involved with.
Dave added: “We introduced a free Scarecrow Competition this year which proved very popular.
“Our judges visited all entries on Friday and concluded that the “Eddymead Bridge Club” were chosen as overall winners, and we will be dropping off a prize to them very soon.
“There were 40 entries in the shops’ ‘Deliberate Mistake’ competition and these entries will be judged this week. The best dresses window winner for 2022 was Country Chic.”
