Local homebuilder Persimmon Homes has announced changes to Community Champions, the company’s charitable scheme which has given more than £1.5-million in the last two years alone to around 5,000 charities, sports clubs and local organisations in Britain.
Through the scheme, Persimmon Homes’ in Cornwall and West Devon has previously provided grants of £1,000 to a range of worthy causes throughout the year.
The company has announced that it will be providing grants of up to £6,000 to community groups and charities every three months, at least £24,000 per year.
Previous beneficiaries of Community Champions donations in Cornwall include organisations Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust, Age UK Cornwall and Refuge 4 Pets.
Liam Scott, regional chairman for Persimmon Wales and the South West, said: “We’re incredibly proud to have helped numerous charities, local community groups and sports clubs across Cornwall because we know what valuable work they do. These organisations are increasingly being asked to do even more or help more and more people.
“We want to ensure that work can continue and this is why we are increasing the amount of money available from £1,000 to £6,000.
“Persimmon is committed to leaving a positive lasting legacy in the communities in which we work, and as well as building good quality homes and creating well-paid high-skilled jobs, we know that Community Champions helps those organisations who are the lifeblood of our communities. We know our donations make a real difference and we’d strongly encourage any local charity in need of support to apply to Community Champions to see if we can help.”
Persimmon has confirmed that the new £6,000 donation is immediately available but that organisations will still be able to apply for smaller donations in accordance with their needs.
