STUDENTS and staff at Launceston College, part of the Athena Learning Trust family of schools, are celebrating another year of improved GCSE results.

A record number of students have achieved a Grade 4+ in both maths and English with positive progress measures expected when results are released later this year. Approximately 50 per cent of grades in biology, chemistry, physics, religious studies and drama, and approximately 25 per cent of grades in maths, history and geography, were grade 7-9.

The whole school community has expressed its pride of its students who have worked hard to secure some excellent results, many of whom are now looking forward to progressing onto their A Levels at Launceston Sixth.

While the school as a whole has performed well, there are a number of individual performances which have stood out.

Tom Brooks achieved eight grade 9s in maths, further maths, English, chemistry, biology, physics and history and hopes for a career in engineering in the future.

Daisy Hockin obtained 100 per cent grade 8-9 across all 10 subjects and will study A Levels before hopefully starting an environmental science degree at Plymouth University.

Josie Hosking is celebrating five grade 9s before starting her next step as a specialist musician playing saxophone and piano at Wells Cathedral School.

With 9s in chemistry, physics and maths, it is no surprise that Edward Johnson will start A Levels in the Sixth Form before pursuing a physics degree.

Aaron Jones is excited to start A Levels in the Sixth Form in maths, further maths, physics and chemistry following grade 9s in maths, further maths, biology, physics and geography at GCSE.

Jack Lennard secured a distinction* on the BTEC Sport course and will move into the sixth form to study A Levels in maths, physics, further maths and engineering.

“Today is also a really welcome opportunity for me to thank all of the staff who have supported Year 11 throughout their GCSEs and to thank all of our students and their families for working so hard to ensure they achieved their potential. I wish everyone success in the next stage of their education and careers, and wish them all exciting and rewarding futures where they can achieve their dreams.”
