IT wouldn’t be an agricultural show without the Women’s Institute providing some glitz and glam.

Members from groups across Cornwall came together at Launceston Show once again to provide a stellar display of creativity and fellowship.

Sylvia from Lanson WI won the cups for both her Novice Flowers and Novice Craft entries

There was a shock in store for Lifton WI however, as they were announced as the winners of the best display - having never won the cup before.

Jill Halford, Lynda Garrad, Jane Bath and Susan Swanepoel (who was unable to attend) were delighted to show us the intricacies of their display, which took inspiration from the children’s book Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter.

“It was a real team effort, each of us helped with each element. Each of us made an item in the knitted garden — Jane made the pumpkins, Lynda the cabbage and Jill the carrots — Susan created the beautiful pot using a technique called ‘napkin decoupage’, and for the pie Jane made the pastry and Jill made the filling!”

Pam Selley, CFWI vice chair, said the Women’s Institute tent at shows like this was a great way for the groups to show what the WI is really all about. She added: “We have seen the resurrection of Launceston WI recently and it is great to see our numbers growing. We want to see more of this so if anyone wants to get involved please do get in touch!”
