Philip Warren Butchers is, for many, a name which harbours memories of cold mornings warmed by the flakey crust and hot beef and potato filling of a freshly baked Philip Warren pasty, so it is unsurprising that they have been named Britain’s Best Butcher Shop at this year’s Meat Industry Awards.
Opening in 1880 and run by the same family for the last 43 years, Philip Warren Butchers has become a staple of the local area. Offering quality produce year round, naturally the company’s good work has been recognised at this year’s Meat Industry Awards, where they were crowned Britain’s Best Butcher Shop.
When speaking to the Post, Ian Warren said the award was “a nice surprise” and made him feel “incredibly proud that we have won such an award.” Being named the best in the country does not come easy however, when asked what he thinks makes them a step above the rest, Ian said: “Serious attention to detail as well as a solid grounding within our farming community and knowledge of the product we sell.”
With the award comes thanks; “Our staff first and foremost because this award is really down to them, they are such a great bunch and work so hard at their jobs. And of course our customers who support us year round which enables us to put on a ‘proper’ meat display,” says Ian.
However, in an award-winning business, thoughts are always turning to what’s next. When asked what’s next for the business, Ian said: “Keep maintaining and pushing the standard that we set ourselves whilst looking after our valued supply chain. Also there could well be some development work going on to further improve the shop in the near future.”
