FOLLOWING a period of significant growth and recruitment Bude-Stratton Town Council hosted a meet and greet session for all current permanent staff members last Thursday with town councillors also in attendance.

The Mayor of Bude-Stratton, Cllr Lea Deely, said: “As a council we have been responsive to the modern demands and new challenges in an ever-changing operating environment, created mainly by changes in legislation and devolution from Cornwall Council.

“It is a gradual but ongoing process that began two years ago with the building of our own new works unit here in Bude. This has made us more self-sufficient, even helping us meet our environmental goals as we have installed solar panels and harvest rain water, whilst at the same time giving us greater control of costs and increasing local job opportunity.”

She said: “During the past nine months we have overseen a period of restructuring, resulting in the creation of additional job roles with the ensuing recruitment of many new staff members. This increased capacity across the facilities, the office and the Castle teams should enable us to meet the wishes expressed by the local community. However, the focus of today is for all staff and councillors to meet each other, to be able to chat in an informal way, to achieve a greater understanding of our respective roles and ways of working.”

The mayor reminded the public they are welcome to attend full council meetings which are held on the first Thursday of every month or attend the drop-in councillor surgery sessions on the second Saturday.
