THE police have closed a portion of the pavement outside Halifax in Launceston following safety concerns.

Team members raised the alarm today (September 25) after they noticed a portion of roofing material appeared to have fallen.

As a precaution members of the local neighbourhood policing team are in attendance. Cones and a police road closed sign have been placed on the pavement and members of the public are advised to avoid the area at the time.

A spokesperson told the Post: “We have asked for the area to be coned off temporarily whilst a solution is reached. Better safe than sorry!”

The road (Southgate Street) remains open, it is only the pavement that is impacted at this time.
