MEMBERS of the Poughill Tea Dance are looking to recruit new members, to join the fun group and take part in some exciting dance routines.

For the past eight years, a sequence dance has taken place at Poughill village hall, near Bude, on a Thursday afternoon.

However, sadly over the years, several dancers have been lost, mainly due to illness or bereavement. Because of the nature of the dancing, it is deemed to be ‘an old folks’ pastime’, with not enough young people coming along to fill the spaces.

Organiser, Alan Fulford, said: “We have a very strong, loyal group of people who are determined to keep this dance going — some of whom are no longer able to dance, but still come for the music and the social element.”

The group has decided to revert back to being a tea dance, adding in other dance style to their programme, as well as continuing with sequence dancing.

The dance is friendly, and partners are not necessary. The dance runs every Thursday afternoon from 2pm until 4.30pm, with a cost of £2.50, which includes light refreshments. Free tuition is available before the dance begins, if required.
