ST Joseph’s School hosted a friendly Junior Netball Tournament on the all-weather pitch on September 21.

This community event was organised by Year 11 GCSE PE pupil Chris Thorns, in conjunction with the PE Staff and Year 10 and 11 St Joseph’s pupils. All agreed that the afternoon was a great success.

The competing schools were — St Catherine’s C of E School, Tavistock Community Primary School, St Catherine’s C of E School, St Petroc’s School, Tregadillett Primary School, Truro High School for Girls, Lewannick County Primary School, St Stephen’s Community Academy, alongside two teams representing the home school St Joseph’s. Each team played four 10-minute games and there was a welcome break in the middle of the afternoon for juice and cookies.

Mrs Gardner, head of PE, complimented Chris on his organisational skills and thanked all the teams for attending.

Chris said: “The afternoon was a great success. The key to it running smoothly was the preparation before it started. Also all the teams that came made it a very enjoyable afternoon. But the biggest help came from my peers who helped make the afternoon run smoothly. I would also like to thank all the teams and their coaches for making the effort to travel and participate in the tournament. Finally a huge thanks to Mrs Gardner, Miss Hemmingway and the rest of the PE staff at St Joseph’s for their help in running the tournament.”
