ST PETROC’S School in Bude has been shortlisted for another national award from the Independent Schools Association (ISA).

Following on from winning the ISA ‘Website of the Year’ award last year, the school’s involvement in local initiatives, be it singing carols in rest homes, cleaning Bude Sea Pool or being part of the Bude Wave Conference, has been recognised and St Petroc’s has now been shortlisted for the finals of the ISA Community Award.

Headmaster, Dan Thornburn, said: “It is wonderful to have been shortlisted for this important award and it should be seen as a huge pat on the back for all the pupils, staff and parents. They have all worked so hard in the past two years to get out into the community and make a real difference locally. Our beach cleans and involvement in the brilliant Bude Wave Conference are just a couple of examples of the positive impact St Petroc’s pupils make to Bude and I’m delighted the effort has been recognised nationally.”

One area that the award focuses on is on charity events, and the St Petroc’s community was fully behind our most recent fundraising idea for ‘Roald Dahl Day’. To celebrate 100 years since his birth, the teachers and children dressed up as their favourite character from one of Roald Dahl’s books and money was raised for Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity. There were some fantastic costumes and a lot of fun was had by all for this excellent cause.

Best outfit had to go to St Petroc’s own BFG, Mr Hilton. At 6ft 6, Mr Hilton, a Cornwall and England Counties rugby player, was quite a realistic Big Friendly Giant and there were a number of ‘Sophies’ to go with him!
