STAFF and students at Launceston College have come together to mark Remembrance Day.

On November 11, some students attended the school in their cadet uniforms to take part in the two minutes silence at 11am; paying tribute to the fallen soldiers who have given their lives in service to the country.

The whole school community, including students, teachers, and other staff members, gathered to observe the moment of reflection and remembrance. Matthew Thompson, principal, read ‘For the Fallen’.

One student then sounded The Last Post to mark the start of the two minute silence.

The Remembrance was then finished with Mr Thompson reading the Kohima Epitaph.

Students were also encouraged to reflect on the significance of Remembrance Day through classroom activities and discussions that focused on the importance of peace, unity, and understanding.

Mr Thompson said: “Remembrance Day is an opportunity to honour the bravery and sacrifice of those who serve in our armed forces and those who lost their lives during war. It’s essential that schools help young people to understand that the freedoms they appreciate today are thanks to them. By teaching our students the values of courage, selflessness, and peace, we hope to instil a deep sense of responsibility in them for the future.”
