A new venue for a concert series will open this summer at St Stephen’s Church in Launceston with a visit by young musicians Chloë Dickens (violin) and Ricky Moreira (piano) to present a concert.

The concert, to be held at 7.30pm on Friday, July 26, will include music for violin and piano by Mozart, Chopin, Debussy, Boulanger and Ravel.

Chloë is an award-winning, multi-genre artist based in the UK and USA. Ricky Moreira is a co-student at ACSM on piano and is working on honing his skills as a vocal accompanist and coach. They both play together as part of the “Balsam Piano Trio”

This new proposed series is an idea suggested by Jess Lancaster, the curate of St Stephen’s Church in Launceston, which seeks to bring a music series to rural churches around Launceston. Rev Lancaster attended the masterclass given by the astonishing Icelandic cellist Geirthrudur Godmondsdottir (cello) and Antoine Préat (piano) in Truro hosted by Metronome earlier this year.

Rev Lancaster said: “My daughter was one of the young students who played in the masterclasses and I suggested to Tim Smithies of Metronome that a concert series might be started in Launceston (if a piano could be found) which would be feature and be inclusive for young performers and people.”

While a piano has been found for this concert, it was hoped that a small grand piano might be gifted or lent to the church through Piano Go Round (who are co-hosting the event). If anyone has a good quality piano they can spare on loan or to gift to make the church a permanent centre for music along the successful lines pioneered by Piano Go Round, contact Tim Smithies [email protected] who set up the Piano Go Round project while director of Carn to Cove.

Before the concert in Launceston at 6pm all young people and parents are invited to attend a free ‘meet the artists’ event to speak to, listen and ask questions. This informal style will open the event to all those who may be unfamiliar with classical music. The concert itself is a specially chosen sequence of music.

Doors open and a licensed bar will be available from 7pm. Concert starts at 7.30pm.

Front row tickets for reserved seating cost £15, unreserved nave pews is £12 and for under 18s is £4. Tickets are non-refundable.
