An event arranged by North Coast Arts and the Friends of Bude Sea Pool has raised £2,368 for the charity to support its ongoing efforts to keep the sea pool thriving.
Summerleaze Swing took place on Saturday, July 31, at Ebbingford Manor when the former frontman of The Stranglers, Paul Roberts and his world class band, treated well over 200 people to a night of laid back but highly polished swing music from the great American songbook.
Everyone was up and dancing on a warm and stylish evening. The show began with a serene set of classics from the velvet-voice of Mark Rosser, followed by a stunning jazz and opera set by Lizzie Hobbs ably accompanied by Thomas Marples on the keyboard.
Extra spice was added by an impromptu celebration of juggling by Ebbingford owner Jonathan Stamp and two other world class jugglers — including the legendary Haggis from Glastonbury — who just happened to be in Bude.
The fundraising for the sea pool included over £1,000 from a raffle and an auction when ‘king-of-the-gavel’ Martyn Holehouse garnered high bids for donated prizes including a holiday from Aria Resorts, tickets for North Coast Arts events, a hamper from Norton Barton Artisan Food Village, a painting by Lynne Holehouse and a mug from Spencer Thorn.
The Friends of Bude Sea Pool were delighted with the whole evening and the amount raised to support the pool. There was a feeling that this could be an event to be repeated in the future.
