DURING the most recent week of half term, the North Cornwall village of St Teath decided to hold a scarecrow competition for the first time.
It was described as a resounding success, with 10 entries and all to a very high standard which made the judges’ job a very difficult one to decide the top three winners.
It brought a different view to the village, with scarecrows dotting the landscape and outside of properties.
The winning entry was by 10-year-old Liam Curnow, who received a trophy and a cash prize after creating an Egyptian themed scarecrow of the famous mummified Pharaoh, Tutankhamun.
Kevin Hargrave, who organised the event said: "I am delighted with the response from the village and this is something that will most definitely become an annual event.”
The top three were announced by the judges.
In first place was Liam, aged 10, who received a trophy along with a cash prize with Tutankhamun of Treroosel Road. Second place was awarded to ‘Willy’ Created by Will Kittow of Rosevale Gardens, with third place Mad Hatters Tea Party Created by Cathy Young in the Village Square.
