A GREAT day was had by all at Poughill Revel and Cuckoo Fair earlier this month.
Organisers have been blessed with good weather over the last few years and this year was no exception — the day was another success.
Charlotte Veale, in her fifth year as revel secretary, said: “The weather was amazing and there was a great turnout — really well supported by locals and holidaymakers.”
After the crowning of the Revel Queen and her attendants, the revel was opened by Paul and Jenny Whybrow of Poughill.
Among the entertainment were Bude Metric Brass and CJ’s Dance School.
There were fancy dress and knobbly knees competitions and a fun dog show.
The Post understands Poughill Revel and Cuckoo Fair has been going for more than 90 years. Charlotte added: “It’s really important to keep traditional fairs running and in their traditional ways.”
Just over £4,000 was raised, which will be distributed to local charities and also support the church and village of Poughill.
The presentation of cheques will take place at a ‘thank you evening’ in November.
Charlotte said: “Thank you on behalf of the committee to all the locals, holidaymakers and all who helped for their support. We couldn’t do it without the help of local people and those who gave up their time to help us.”
