Thirteen year old Will Bacchus from Week St Mary spent an exciting two days in Birmingham competing at Crufts for a fourth year.
Will and his dog, Rudi, a working cocker spaniel, compete in dog agility and they had qualified for two Young Kennel Club (YKC) events — under 18 jumping and the under 24 Anything But Collie (ABC) agility.
Will has previously competed at Crufts with his other dog, Aston, a show type cocker spaniel but was the first time that Rudi competed in agility at Crufts.
Both dogs are grade seven — the top grade in the UK agility world and they have achieved this through Will’s hard work and dedication to their training.
Their hard work certainly paid off with Friday seeing Will and Rudi securing 3rd place in YKC under 24 ABC agility, which Will was delighted with. Saturday was the Under 18 jumping final, with Will and Rudi running last.
They ran completely clear but were unsure if it was fast enough to win.
Presentations a couple of hours later confirmed that the pair had won!
Will said: “I love competing in agility with my dogs as they have such fun doing it and I would recommend the sport to anyone! Crufts is very special and to be placed in both runs, with a win, is absolutely amazing. Rudi is a fantastic partner and he loved running at Crufts.”
Will now has his sights set on gaining a place in a championship final, where the top dogs and handlers from across the UK compete against each other.
