Cornwall Cricket League latest round-up for Division Five and Six East

GUNNISLAKE enjoyed a 40-point weekend as they moved up to fourth in the Division Five East table.

Saturday saw them welcome St Austell Fourths and four wickets apiece for Lee Roberts (4-34) and James Boundy restricted the Saints to 118 all out, a total the hosts knocked off inside 20 overs thanks to Joe Organ (52) and skipper Dinesh Thirupuvanarajah (34).

Sunday was an even easier day’s work as St Stephen Seconds were skittled for just 84.

Lee Roberts took care of the openers before Joe Organ (2-23) and latterly Paul Innes (5-10) went to work.

Sam Graber then smashed 54 not in the chase with Stephen Lees (17no) providing the support.

The local derby between Bude Seconds and their Holsworthy counterparts at Crooklets went the way of the visitors.

Both innings followed similar patterns with two of the top three from both sides making valuable contributions.

Holsworthy’s score of 195-5 was made possible by half centuries from skipper Lyndon Piper (73) and Scott Bingham (60), the latter making his first appearance of the season.

Charlie Gliddon (2-33) and Mike Taylor (2-40) took some late wickets.

With Charlie Gliddon (41) and Lee Houghton (63) going well the hosts looked to be cruising.

But their departures swung the game Holsworthy’s way as Bude eventually finished on 174-8. Ryan Bridgeman was the star for the visitors with 4-27 from his ten overs.

South Petherwin were able to name a much stronger side for the visit of Werrington Fourths and ran out 29-run winners.

They made 192-9 with Gareth Clements (42), Adrian Martin (39) and Billy Martin (30) amongst the runs.

Werrington teenagers Joe Gent (3-46) and Sam Uglow (2-40) shared five wickets.

Werrington’s reply started well with Antony Sachs (32) and Andrew Smeeth (38) going well, but they struggled once they departed with James Cawsey (3-49) and Emma Barnes (3-29) doing much of the damage.

Elsewhere in the division there were wins for Gorran over Bugle, Saltash St Stephens Seconds at St Stephen Seconds and Wadebridge Thirds over their Roche counterparts.

Division Six saw four matches on Saturday.

Kevin Worth struck 110 and William Mansfield took 4-19 as Launceston Thirds beat Tideford Seconds by 94 runs,.

Tintagel Seconds continued their good start with an easy victory over St Stephen Thirds.

Ben Jarram was 91 not and Simon Harrison made 67 in their 220-4 which proved 85 too many for the visitors who were seven down.

Six Tintagel bowlers took a wicket.

Menheniot-Looe Thirds won by 86 runs at Boconnoc Seconds having posted 204-2 with half centuries from Michael Caddy (84no) and Paul Juckett,

Caddy’s fine all-round game continued as he took 4-29. Only Darren Piper with 31 provided much resistance.

Michael Drown put in a man of the match display for leaders St Neot Seconds as they won by six wickets at Newquay Fourths.

He took 4-22 before 42 not out apiece from Ted Dyer and Stephen Hayes settled their chase of 143.

Luckett Seconds were seven-wicket winners at Lanhydrock Thirds on Sunday, chasing down 162 with ease.

Loan player James Cawsey was 64 not out while his former South Petherwin team-mate Gareth Clements claimed 5-33 with the ball.

Phil Elkins made an unbeaten 75 for the hosts.
