GYMNASTS from North Devon Gymnastics Club were in the medals again at the Exeter Challenge recreational competition recently.

Many of the gymnasts come from Bude, and the competitors – aged between six and 13 – competed on the ?oor, trampette, vault, beam/parallel bars and physical preparation.

In the girls’ under six category, Paige Giddon and Amelia Newton-Chalmers showed great potential in their ?rst ever competition.

Merry Tremlett executed a great vault to gain her a gold medal, and Lily Johns’ tidy trampette routine gained her a silver medal in the girls under 7 competition. Teammate Maddison Naylor also put in a great performance all round.

The North Devon girls’ under 8 gymnasts – Isabelle Cooper, Seren Chespy, Millie Luxton, Poppy Bennett and Maisie Bain – showed amazing team spirit, with Isabelle taking a well deserved gold on vault and Seren close behind her with the silver medal place.

Bodie Johns had a great competition in the boys’ under seven competition; grabbing a haul of six medals. Gold’s on vault, parallel bars and trampette and silvers on ?oor and physical preparation, earned him a silver medal overall in his category.

There were a few narrow misses for the under 9 girls who put in great performances. Sophie Milsom, Lowen Middleton, Isobel Baird, Kayleigh Seward, Erin Hunter and Lacey Hookways all worked extremely hard, achieving personal best scores. However, a strong vault and great beam routine saw Lacey Hookways gain herself a hard earned gold and bronze medal, with Erin Hunter narrowly missing out on a medal with a respectable fourth place on the vault.

Jasmine Squire also had a great competition, taking gold with a lovely performance on beam and a bronze on trampette.

The under 13 girls put in outstanding performances on all ?ve pieces, coming away with a huge medal haul.
