FA VASE FIRST QUALIFYING ROUND (SATURDAY)

Camelford 0 Bishops Lydeard 1

CAMELFORD’S FA Vase run is over for another season after a deflected goal gave their Somerset victory at Trefrew Park.

The Camels went into the game with another much-changed side and had to do without Shae Cardiff and Josh Smith due to suspension and work respectively.

They were able to welcome back influential midfielder Andy Boxall from holiday, while goalkeeper Josh Colwill was given his first start of the season in the absence of talented teenager Howie Evans.

The opening half hour saw the Camels shade possession, but it was Colwill that had to be alert to tip a shot around the post 15 minutes in.

Camelford responded when striker Adam Sleep was sent clear by Kenan Nicholas, but his effort was also diverted wide by the keeper.

But the winner came on the stroke of half-time as Marky Jones’ 20-yard shot took a huge deflection that looped up and over a stranded Colwill.

The second half saw the Cornish men have most of the ball, but it wasn’t until the final five minutes that they started to create chances.

James Bosley shot wide when well placed, before the Boscastle attacker then drew a good save out of Toby Warner at his near post.

Then came a moment of controversy which prevented extra-time, and possibly penalties.

Andy Boxall’s cross-cum-shot from the left side of the box floated into the far corner, but the linesman adjudged Olly Taylor to have been interfering with play, meaning it was chalked off and with it Camelford were out.
