DIVISION TWO EAST - SATURDAY, MAY 18

BRETT Hunter made it 12 wickets in just two games as Bude picked up their first win of the season with a 95-run success at St Minver.

The Seasiders were missing the likes of Matt Williams, Matt Mansbridge and James Sharman, but put in a solid showing with the bat before Hunter’s superb spell of 7-22 condemned the hosts to a second straight loss.

Openers Wayne Adams and Jack Miles added 31 in quick time before the latter went for a run a ball 11.

Adams struck six boundaries in his 27 before going at 46 to Alek Gill who bowled superbly for his 3-16 off nine overs.

Skipper Warren Rumble (44) and Matt Whitefield (23) then steadied the ship with a patient partnership of 64 before both departed within ten runs of each other.

However the innings was given some real impetus by Anthony Buchanan (34 off 33), Andrew De Rosa (18 off 19) and James Turner (30no off 17) as they accelerated to 209-6 with the seam of Reece Thompson (1-57) and Kieran Gill (2-63) getting the treatment.

With regular opener Ben Hawken batting down the order after spraining his ankle, Bude seized the initiative with Hunter’s left arm pace proving deadly.

He took the first six wickets to fall as the hosts slipped to 31-6, 14 of which came from skipper Jonny Centini.

With Ryan Pooley and Thompson at the crease, St Minver had a chance, but on 53 Thompson was caught by Rumble off Mark Whitefield (1-31 off nine).

Pooley continued to battle away by himself in making 40, and although Hawken came in lower down the order to be unbeaten on 20, the end came at 116 with Hunter dismissing last man Dean Jeffery.

Tintagel slipped to a disappointing seven-wicket defeat at Ladock.

The Knights paraded new overseas signing Akobe Earle, who comes from Barbados, after arriving in the country earlier in the week, and he made 51 in their 184 all out.

Jordan Blanchard also weighed in with a steady 54, but on a small ground that was always going to prove tough to defend.

And although Ladock were far from full strength, the classy Alex Ridd ensured there was no drama as he helped himself to an unbeaten 115 as they eased to a seven-wicket victory.

Harry Daly bowled superbly for his 3-26 from nine overs.

Callington Seconds have enjoyed an excellent start to the season, but they were comprehensively beaten by nine wickets at their St Austell counterparts.

Pacy teenager Jack Carter was the star of the show for the home side with 5-51 as Cally were rolled over for just 106.

Only James Brenton (20), Charlie Coates (16) and Harvey Poad (12no) made double figures.

Things didn’t get any better with the ball as the Saints eased to victory.

Hugh Parkinson was unbeaten on 49 with the only wicket to fall that of Archie Connolly for 22 to Joe Coates.

South Petherwin were denied a probable victory by the weather at Lanhydrock.

Petherwin batted first and recovered from 32-3 to post 172-8 from their 45 overs.

Opener Andrew Brenton made 56, and with useful contributions coming in from Jacob Masters (28), Adrian Warne (32) and Adrian Clements (27) they got themselves up to a competitive score.

That appeared to be more than enough as Lanhydrock were 85-8 after 31 overs when the rain set in.

Kevin Horrell continued his fine start to the season with 3-18 from nine overs, while Paul Clements (2-19 off 9) and Adrian Clements (3-20 off 7) did the job to.

Holsworthy eased past Werrington Seconds in the other game by 76 runs having posted 219-4, 89 of which came from Jack Greening.
