Holsworthy AFC latest round-up
THE Magpies’ first team had a crazy time of it last week as they played three times in four days in three separate competitions.
Wednesday night saw their SWPL Premier West clash with Dobwalls abandoned at half-time with the Magpies losing 1-0, as referee Mark Dobrijevic decided that conditions were unfit to continue.
Cullompton Rangers were the visitors on Saturday in the SWPL League Cup, and but it was the East Devon outfit that advanced.
Holsworthy fell behind on 10 minutes via Lewis Jill’s finish, but Blake Shapland’s scuffed shot found its way in on 26 minutes.
Home captain Jedd Peschke was soon shown a debatable red card, but they went in front five minutes after the restart as Jay Thomas’ corner from the right was headed back across goal by Shapland to find Ollie Moores who made no mistake.
Within five minutes it was 2-2 as from a quick throw-in, Aiden Horne ran towards the area before beating Chadwick.
Chadwick was then the hero when he saved Will Pinnick’s penalty diving away to his left, but on 84 minutes the visitors were awarded another spot-kick, which this time was put away by Hill.
Holsworthy regrouped and came again and were awarded a penalty themselves after Jay Thomas’ cross struck a hand.
Up stepped, Gavin Carter but keeper Joe Howard was in no mood to surrender and saved it to send Cully through.
Sunday saw the Magpies visit North Devon League side Landkey Town in the first round of the Torridge Cup and ran out 2-0 winners.
Holsworthy have enjoyed some fine moments in the competition in recent years, including reaching the final in the last two seasons.
Landkey, second in the North Devon League Premier Division, caused some problems at times, but Jedd Peschke’s fine individual effort and Ben Sharpe’s finish sent them through.
