TINTAGEL’S hopes of reaching the quarter-finals of the Division Two T20 Cup are over after they were comprehensively beaten by Wadebridge Seconds in the Group G decider at Egloshayle Park last night.
The Knights headed down the A39 missing a couple of players, including overseas player Dan Jn Baptiste who was nursing a knock, and ran into a brutal display of hitting from opener Alex Forward who smashed eight fours and seven sixes in his 96.
Wadebridge ran up a large 196-5 with the rest of the runs coming from Charlie McLachlan (24), Tom McLachlan and double-figure scores from James Cox (16) and Ross McLachlan (12no).
Left-arm spinner Matt Pethick bowled three overs at the start for just 18, but the rest of the bowlers went at nines or more.
Tintagel’s reply never really got started as they finished on 107-8.
The hard-hitting Aaron Washer struck five boundaries in his 25, while Ollie Edwards, who earlier had taken 2-36, made an unbeaten 20 from number nine.
Ben Hurst was the pick of the home attack with 3-19 from his four overs, two of which were maidens.
Tintagel return to league action on Saturday when they visit South Petherwin (1pm).
