Cornwall Cricket League Division Four East round-up – Saturday, June 22
LEADERS St Neot continued their quest for an immediate bounce back to the fourth tier as they thrashed Newquay Thirds by ten wickets at Wenmouth on Saturday.
After David Eldridge (2-18) did some good early work, the left-arm swing of Michael Drown proved too hot to handle for the visiting batsmen as they were dismissed for just 78, Drown taking 6-14 from just 5.5 overs.
Openers Jack Kent (50no) and Andrew Tamblyn (18no) had no trouble knocking off the runs.
Duloe were given a scare by Launceston Seconds before earning a three-wicket success against their struggling visitors.
Launceston made 171-9 from their 40 overs with opening bowlers Dick Turpin (3-34) and Sam Conway (3-28) sharing six wickets.
Duloe lost wickets throughout themselves but 46 from Felix Plant and a quickfire 38 towards the end from William Turpin got the job done.
A depleted Menheniot-Looe Seconds were thrashed by 110 runs at Pencarrow.
The hosts made a solid 195-5 which saw 45 not out from Eddie Thomson plus thirties from Kevin Sherratt, Greg Derry and Tristan Jago, and 20 not out from Daniel Cock.
Michael Caddy (2-40) and Joe Bell (2-27) both bowled tidily.
Tristan Jago then took 4-22 in a reply which saw the highest scorer bar extras (31) make 11.
Lanhydrock Seconds were also short for their clash at Grampound Road Thirds and were beaten by 65 runs.
The first part went okay as Grampound were restricted to 201-9 despite 4-43 from Nathanael James and braces for Alfie Wilson (2-54), Brian Barnicoat (2-33) and Jamie Taylor (2-21).
The batting got off to a poor start and although James completed a good all-round performance with 31 and Alfie Cousens made 24, they could only muster 136 all out.
Elsewhere there were wins for St Stephen Seconds and St Blazey Seconds at St Minver twos and Buckland Monachorum respectively.
