Bond Timber Cornwall Junior Cup (second-round)
Bude Town Reserves 5
Torpoint Athletic Fourths 0
DUCHY League Division Two high-flyers Bude Town Reserves moved into the third-round of the Bond Timber Cornwall Junior Cup with a 5-0 victory over Torpoint Athletic Fourths on Saturday.
Broadclose Park played host to one of the few surviving weekend fixtures and despite the damp conditions the football on show was of good quality, with visitors Torpoint, of the Plymouth and Devon League, making the 100-mile trip.
The game started brightly, on the pitch at least, with both sides putting good passing moves together and it was the away side who carved open the first major opportunity forcing Bude keeper, Kieran Stanbridge into an excellent save in the tenth minute.
It was the home side though who drew first blood five minutes later, with some smart play on the right by Lucas Francoise who set up Ryan Leverton whose low left footed drive from 20 yards opened the scoring.
Torpoint battled well and fought back to create their best opportunity of the half shortly afterwards, but Stanbridge was once again up to the challenge, pulling off an even more impressive full-length diving stop to keep Bude ahead.
Bude then began to assert and more great work from young Frenchman Francoise on the right saw him square for Steve Box, to sweep home and double the Seagulls’ lead in the 25th minute.
A third arrived shortly before half-time when striker Josh Allen was hauled down in the box and the Steve Hackett made no mistake from the spot.
It was an excellent first half from Bude who played against a vicious wind for much of the first period.
Bude picked up where they left off in the second half, passing the ball around nicely and playing some good football in tricky conditions.
The high press forced the Torpoint goalkeeper into an error as his clearance found Bude midfielder Leverton, who clipped the ball first time from 25 yards back over the keeper’s head to make it four.
The win was completed when Hackett’s constant hard work was rewarded with a second goal as he slotted the ball home from eight yards to make it 5-0.
The North Cornwall side will make the trip west to either Stithians or Constantine, who play this weekend, for a place in the last 16.
