North Devon Football League round-up – Saturday, April 12
MORWENSTOW enjoyed a fine weekend as they moved to within two points of third-placed Woolsery in the Senior Division.
However, there was still slight disappointment for the Greens as they were handed a home walkover by Merton.
But with Woolsery being held to a 4-4 draw by visiting Shebbear United, it’s all to play for with both sides having four games remaining, the first of which sees them face off this weekend.
Shebbear led 2-0 thanks to goals from Ben Brace and Ryan Down, but a deflected free-kick found it’s way in to halve the deficit before half-time.
Matt Facey’s backheel restored the two-goal lead but a mistake followed by a superb volley made it 3-3.
Woolsery looked to have completed a superb turnaround late on, but with less than five minutes to go a deep free-kick was headed in by James Vanstone for 4-4.
The home scorers were Chase Howe, Alan Shaw and Tyler Yarde (2).
Holsworthy Reserves, who remain in contention for a top three finish in the Premier Division, were without a game, but struggling Hartland had a tough afternoon as they were thrashed 9-0 at leaders Boca Seniors who saw seven of the goals shared by Sam Box (3) and sub Scott Sharp.
Bradworthy remain on course for a top three finish after easing past the side that currently occupy the position, Georgeham and Croyde Rovers, 4-1 on Saturday.
The Horniwinks led 2-0 at the break and despite Raith Whattingham pulling one back, the hosts extended their advantage further.
The home scorers were Dom Abbott (2), Lee Clarke and Tudor Placinta.
Putford dropped two crucial points as they somehow let slip a 3-0 lead at Kingsley Park.
Goals from Harvey Dack, Mitch Power and Jamie Hooper had the villagers cruising at half-time, but the hosts responded to leave Putford two points off third having played a game more.
Morwenstow Reserves and Holsworthy Thirds had the day off, while Hartland Reserves were beaten 7-2 by visiting Kingsley Wizards.
