WEST HOCKEY LEAGUE WOMEN’S TRELAWNEY DIVISION ONE

Bude 8 Bodmin Seconds 0

BUDE made it two emphatic victories over Bodmin for the season as they eased past their visitors 8-0 on Saturday.

Having won the away contest 8-1, Bude started well with Mia Flynn to the fore.

Bude took the lead when Hannah Maloney found the net inside 10 minutes with a well-placed shot, assisted by a signature drive down the base line from Charlotte Prime. Phoebe Gannon extended the lead with a powerful strike from a short corner, drilling the ball into the bottom left corner.

Bude worked hard to keep the momentum and Naomi Hatcher was able to increase the lead with a well-timed tap-in from another short corner routine.

After receiving motivation from coach Tammy Snowhill and captain Phoebe Gannon, Bude continued their first half form and were rewarded with more goals.

First, Chloe Hall slotted the ball away from the post confidently after another Prime assist. Bodmin’s defence then tired with Bryony Varcoe tapping in another from the third short corner of the half.

Bodmin did create a chance that took Bude’s keeper Jo Timmins by surprise, but the defence of Willow Du Plessis, Clare Westaway and Eva Clarke held out.

From the 16, Caroline Hockridge played a pivotal role in distributing the ball through the midfield, allowing for Gannon, Maloney and Prime to make some excellent drives down towards the D.

And it was soon 6-0 as Maloney set up Briony Varcoe to smash home.

Bodmin showed resilience throughout, but after the hosts were awarded another short corner, a wide strike from Prime led to a rebound for Evelyn Varcoe to slot away the seventh.

The final goal came from Evelyn Varcoe, who finished a well-worked move with a close-range tap-in.

Bude, who are eighth, visit second-placed St Austell on Saturday at Penair School (midday).
