WOMEN’S TRELAWNEY DIVISION ONE
Bude 1 St Austell 4
BUDE sit eighth in the division after slipping to a disappointing 4-1 defeat to mid-table St Austell on Saturday at the Budehaven Sports Centre.
The Seasiders, who were missing plenty of players, had lost just two of their opening six fixtures but within seven minute the game was all but up as the Saints breezed into a 3-0 lead, helped by some fine play and poor defending.
To regain their composure, Bude who played with ten throughout, shuffled their line-up, bringing Naomi Hatcher back into defence and moving Evelyn Varcoe into midfield.
This adjustment started to pay off as the game became more competitive, with both teams battling for control.
However, St Austell, who were denied by goalkeeper Rachel Pomeroy on several occasions, managed to score on the break, netting their fourth goal to all but seal the contest.
Bude did give themselves hope shortly after by getting on the scoresheet.
Izzy Sobey drove down the line, earning Bude their first short corner. Caroline Hockridge took the strike, and although it was saved after a few rebounds in the D, Hatcher made no mistake from close range
Buoyed by the goal, Bude returned to the second half with renewed determination and improved their passing.
One such move saw Megan Fry send the ball to Willow Du Plessis who combined with Mia Flynn to set Chloe Hall away, who saw her effort well saved.
EJ Biggadike put in a solid effort in midfield to keep the pressure on, but despite their best attempts, neither side could add any more goals as the Saints went home with three points.Bude will aim to bounce back on Saturday when they go to Liskeard’s Lux Park to take on Caradon Thirds (12.30pm).
