Cornwall Cricket League Division Five and Six East latest round-up
BUDE Seconds’ hopes of finishing second in Division Five East took a blow on Sunday as they were beaten by five wickets by Wadebridge Thirds who occupy that spot.
Bude, who beat Werrington Fourths on Saturday, were given a boost by the clash between Gunnislake and Holsworthy Seconds being abandoned.
But after Wadebridge’s five-wicket win on Sunday, they have a 27-point lead over Bude and a 26-point advantage over Holsworthy who have a game in-hand.
Werrington win was set up by their batsmen as they made a competitive 208-6.
It was 64-3 in the 20th over with Ben Sonley’s dismissal of Michael Taylor for 28 appearing to be a key moment.
But Bude rallied through Mike Ellis (46), Ryan Chalkley (31), Joe Gliddon (27no) and Paul Gliddon (22).
Werrington’s young attack with the exception of Sonley, who took 3-32, stuck to their task well.
Peter Ellis (2-34) and Dan Petit (2-23) then took a brace apiece as Werrington slipped to 75-6 despite Matt Chatfield’s 43.
But Werrington rallied to reach 158-6 as Tyler Westlake (35no) and the returning Jack Gribble (50no) put on a stand of 83.
Down at Wadebridge, Bude’s 193-6 was again a team effort with Lee Houghton’s 44 the best.
Opener Jack Miles added 38 before Martin Bell (35no) and Ryan Chalkley (24) added some late impetus.
Bude were on top with Wadebridge 81-4 and the dangerous Harry Tinker out for 44, but a match-winning stand of 89 between Lucas Stewart (45no) and Leigh Charles (70no) shifted the momentum.
Ryan Chalkley was the pick of the Bude attack with 3-46.
Holsworthy were in the box seat at Gunnislake when the rain set in.
Gunni were 96-7 from 28.1 overs with five bowlers in the wickets including a brace for Ben Hutchings (2-8) and Dan Marks (2-29).
South Petherwin put together a surprise victory over Bugle with the help of three loan players from Werrington.
They put together a competitive 169-7 with thirties from Richard Watson (36) and Werrington duo Trevor Dingle (35) and Scott Baker (33) before dismissing the Clay country outfit for 157.
Watson was man of the match for his 3-38 to go alongside his runs while Werrington legend Brian Baker’s 2-25 off nine proved key. Skipper Emma Barnes chipped in with 2-19.
Luckett were struggling at 118-9 despite Mike Clements’ rapid 33 and 24 from Richard Seeley, but a 40-run stand between Ian Roberts and Ali Skeet decided the game.
Roberts made 25 from 37 balls while Skeet hung around for 25 balls for his six.
Tintagel’s attack was led by Josh Fry’s 4-26 while Kane Hartland (3-42) and David Lane (2-21) chipped in.
Tintagel were going well at 65-1 in the 23rd over before Adam Piper (3-45) struck twice in two balls, including Joe Parsons for 21, and when Simon Harrison (38) was caught by Gareth Clements, it was game on.
The hosts required 34 off the last four overs, but Martin Budge (5-39) and Richard Seeley held their nerve to ensure Luckett are 16 points clear with a game in-hand.
Launceston Thirds beat their St Stephen counterparts by four wickets.
The visitors made a competitive 154 all out helped by 55 extras and 38 from Andrew Cook.
Five Launceston bowlers – Olivia Jones (2-22), Martin Vanstone (2-28), William Mansfield (2-36), Ryan Vanstone (2-33) and Edward Mansfield (2-23) took a brace.
The chase saw Simon Wilton top score with 44 while there were twenties from Andrew Baker (25), Oliver Sheldrake (24) and Olivia Jones (29no).
