SEVERAL members of Launceston Road Runners completed the eighth race of the Cornish Grand Prix Series on Wednesday, July 17 – the Turkey Trot.
The event is a four-mile road race starting at Tricky’s Hotel, Bar and Restaurant, near Redruth and organised by Cornwall Athletic Club.
Thirteen Launceston runners headed down the A30 on a warm, sunny evening, and whilst turkeys can see better than humans, the Road Runners had no trouble seeing their way to the finish line with some great results, which were as follows: Kevin Marshall – 28:07 (third in M60-64 category); Peter James – 29:56; Claire Winfield – 31:17 (second in F55-59); Chris Fowler – 31:34; Katie Fowler – 31:43; Catriona Ward Sell – 32.32; Ian Grimes – 36:16; Jackie Chapman – 36:38; Emma James – 38:18; Janet Lathom – 39.26 (second in F65-69); John Barnes – 41:01; Martin Venning – 41:28; Lavinia Marshall – 44:12.
Three days earlier saw four members – Kevin Marshall, Peter James, Emma James and Lavinia Marshall compete the difficult Lundy Island Half Marathon.
The Lundy race is one of most unique trail running experiences available and it is on the doorstep of Cornwall and Devon!
Fourteen miles of pristine, wildlife encrusted tracks tended by the Landmark Trust are open to run, walk and crawl. Whichever way you do it.
The race visits the North lighthouse traversing the undulating eastern and western clifftops, clings to the precipitous slopes and runs along the central spine of the island (as well as a few sidetracks).
Runners discover this beautiful and rugged island in all its glorious entirety!
The times were as follows: Kevin Marshall – 2:05:15; Peter James – 2:19:27; Emma James – 3:21:16; Lavinia Marshall – 3:27:51.
The ninth race of the 2024 Cornish Grand Prix Series is the Indian Queens Half Marathon on Sunday, August 4.
