BUDE Ladies were crowned winners of the 10s tournament at Plymstock Albion Oaks RFC on Sunday.

The North Cornwall side travelled to the Horsham Playing Fields after their scheduled league game was cancelled due to Minehead not being able to raise a side.

Drawn in a pool with Brixham and Cullompton, Bude faced Cullompton first and won 10-0 with two good team tries. Katie Fry doing some outstanding work in the lineout and stealing Cullompton’s ball and quick hands realising Frankie Perry on the wing.

Next up was Brixham, a development side who only had a few games under their belts. The score at half-time was 20-0 to Bude and Brixham conceded due to an injured player. Mel Ruby got on the scoresheet during this game storming through the middle to score under the posts. Tia Larson and Holly Stephenson ran a lovely move to put Larson over. Perry scored the others.

The final was between Bude and the home club who were also unbeaten in their pool having played Launceston and Plymouth University.

With a great warm-up led by coach Mike Haines, Bude were more than up for this last game and came out strong against their old adversaries.

Bude scored first with Perry collecting a loose ball from the kick-off. Lauren Pharo made some strong carries and quick ball from Honey saw Bude cut through Oaks’ defence with a brilliant run from Stephenson for Honey to dot down. Perry grabbed two further tries as Bude dominated.

Oaks came back in the second-half and Bude put in a massive defensive effort with big hits going in all over the pitch. A penalty try awarded at full-time to Oaks saw the final score see Bude run out 26-7 winners.
