LAUNCESTON joint head coach Ian Goldsmith admits he ‘can’t really complain’ as the All Blacks made it six wins from seven to start the season in Regional One South West with a 47-12 success over Matson at Polson Bridge.

Goldsmith said: “Last year we got ourselves into a promising position and didn’t push on from it, but we’ve said to the guys that the really good teams don’t just get to the top of the league, they stay there.

“Our attack is looking really good with over 300 points (304) in seven games and our defence, particularly in our own 22, has been solid.

“But the flip side of Saturday’s result is that we had a red card, Grav (Tom Sandercock) has broken a finger in a tackle and Fred (Levent Bulut) has suffered a calf injury.”

Goldsmith praised the partnership of scrum-half George Hillson and captain Tom Sandercock at ten.

Goldsmith said: “It’s been fantastic how they’ve got in synch so quickly and George’s arrival has made Tom go to another level. Not only are they really good rugby players, they’re also tough, tough boys.”

So how does he look back on the first seven games?

He added: “We can’t really complain. I suppose you always kick yourself that we mucked up a bit against Exmouth, but it looks like it’s going to be between four of us – ourselves, Exmouth, Barnstaple and Brixham.

“But we now turn our attention to Saturday’s Cornwall Knockout Cup tie.

“The last time we were in the competition we won it, so we want to repeat that.

“We have to go to Penryn who’ll be desperate to turn us over and show us what they’re all about, and with us and St Austell being the two highest ranked sides in the competition, we’re the two favourites and it’s up to us to show that.”
