CORNWALL CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION TWO EAST

Holsworthy v Bude

WARREN Rumble struck 77 as Bude beat neighbours Holsworthy by seven wickets at Stanhope Park.

The Seasiders captain came to the crease following the departure of James Sharman (27) to Graham Wild, and he and Matt Williams (43) put on a match-clinching partnership of nearly 150, after the Trees had earlier posted 182-6.

However there was plenty of controversy early on as Williams was given not out to a caught behind appeal which left the hosts furious.

Once play resumed after a short delay, Williams occupied one end, striking just four boundaries in his knock before being bowled by Dan Smith, while Rumble attacked.

The former Werrington batsman struck four fours and six sixes, four of which were belted off South African Herschelle Poggenpoel.

Rumble departed before the end, caught by Ryan Walter off Aiden Gerry, but the task for James Turner (9no) and Matt Mansbridge (2no) was simple.

Holsworthy opening bowlers Jack Greening and Graham Wild conceded just 20 from their respective nine-over spells before the Seasiders looked to take on the rest of the attack.

Earlier in the day, Rumble won the toss and chose to field, not a surprise after the rain earlier in the week.

That was decision was vindicated as the in-form Jack Greening was lbw to Aussie Brett Hunter (2-48) for four, while Chris Pomeroy departed for five to Matt Mansbridge (1-24).

Although dropped three times, Poggenpoel showed his class to anchor the rest of the innings.

While he shared partnerships with Ryan Walter (10) and Aiden Gerry (25), it was his 98 which came off 115 balls that gave the Trees a chance.

He hit 11 fours and two sixes before being run out by Matt Williams who took 1-44.

Andrew De Rosa (0-29) and Mark Whitefield (1-33) gave little away.
