Cornwall Cricket League Division Four East round-up – Saturday, August 10

ST MINVER Seconds made it back-to-back victories with a dominant seven-wicket success over mid-table Pencarrow at Menefreda Way.

A fine bowling performance restricted the visitors to just 123-8 from their 40 overs, that despite openers Isaac Jago and Eddie Thomson making 21 and 32 respectively.

But of the rest, only Tristan Jago with 15 reached double figures as the hosts fought back.

Teenager Jack Gill was the star of the show with 4-20 from his ten overs while Neil Meneer’s 3-32 was also useful.

The reply was over in just 16.4 overs.

Meneer made a quickfire 36 and with opener Neil Kent batting through for an unbeaten 48 and Steve Hawke adding 30, seven of which came in boundaries, the game was soon done.

Phil Williams took 2-26.

Launceston Seconds picked up a much-needed victory as they beat their Menheniot-Looe counterparts by 29 runs at Lawhitton.

The hosts lost three early wickets, two of which fell to the miserly Steve Bailey (2-21), but while opener Josh Theobald batted through for an unbeaten 69, Danny Sloman provided the fireworks with a brutal 96.

He struck nine fours and seven sixes before departing with four overs to go.

A late cameo from Kevin Worth (12no) got Launceston up to 206-4.

Menheniot were weaker than usual, as shown by their third team conceding, and never seriously threatened the total.

Opener Alex Caddy (48) and skipper Dave Dickens (41) made forties, but Kevin Worth (2-40), Brett Grosvenor (2-28) and Sam Palmer (3-53) shared seven wickets as the visitors were restricted to 176-8.

Elsewhere in the division, there were abandonments at St Neot and Duloe, a cancellation at Buckland Monachorum and a rare victory for Grampound Road Thirds over their Newquay counterparts in a game reduced to 28 overs per side.
