WERRINGTON Cricket Club’s ladies team won their first ever matches earlier this month.

On Sunday, May 12 they welcomed Boconnoc in the Cornwall Women’s Softball League East Division before making the long trip down to Helston a week later for a hardball contest in Cornwall Women’s Development League.

Werrington won the toss and batted first against Boconnoc scoring 128 for 1 off 16 overs. Tilly Paynter top scoring with 21. Boconnoc replied scoring 109 for 1 with E Thomas top scoring with 22 and Emma Horrell bowling a very tight 1-6 off her two overs.

Helston won the toss putting Werrington in on a hot Sunday afternoon at Beacon Parc. 

Emma Horrell and Grace Kirby got off to a great start scoring 57 in the first 10 overs then retired so Tilly Paynter and Sharron Ruby took on and scored 48 more before retiring and allowing Imogen Rowe and Rachel Jackson to come in. 

Imogen got a great ball from Amy Wakfer knocking her off stump back. 

Ella Conway came in and finished the innings as scored 106 off their 20 overs. 

Helston struggled early on with a wicket each from Tilly Paynter and Emma Horrell. Hayley Kirby had a great run out from behind the stumps and Emma, who finished with 2-5 from her five overs, picked up another at the end.
