Cornwall Cricket League Division Two East latest round-up

WERRINGTON Seconds’ hopes of winning the title took a big blow on Saturday as they were beaten at in-form St Blazey.

It means following wins against South Petherwin and St Blazey on Sunday, St Austell Seconds are the new leaders with a two-point lead and a game in-hand.

Down at St Blazey, Werrington made a competitive 162 all out.

Opener Rob May made 55, but his departure at 118-4 saw five wickets fall for just seven runs, before skipper Jason Seldon made 35 with support from last man Nick Oldaker (6no).

Werrington were right in the game at 81-5, but Angus Harley changed the momentum with a quickfire 43, before they got home by four wickets.

Oldaker (2-37) and Billy Uglow (2-22) took braces.

Callington Seconds remain third after a five-wicket success at Tintagel.

The home side compiled 237 all out with opener Tom Parsons making 84 from just 77 balls.

He received fine support from Jordan Blanchard (33) and Adrian Pooley (42).

Jim Shorten was the pick of the visiting attack with 3-30.

Callington eventually eased to victory with veterans Alex Robinson and Peter Tancock leading the way.

Robinson provided the anchor with 74 from the top of the order before Tancock’s 82 not out, which included 13 boundaries, got them over the line.

Blanchard completed a good all-round day with 3-54 while Harry Daly (0-22) was miserly.

Holsworthy are up to fourth after a 40-point weekend.

On Saturday they won by 40 runs at Ladock.

South African Herschelle Poggenpoel (74) and skipper Ryan Walter (68no) led from the front as they made a competitive 224-5.

Ladock were well on top at 129-1 with the dangerous Alex Ridd (73) set, but his departure to Will Priest (2-25) instigated a collapse with left-arm spinner Graham Wild taking 3-38.

On Sunday they headed to Tintagel for a rearranged fixture and raced to a nine-wicket victory.

Again it was the spin twins of Poggenpoel (3-11) and Wild (2-20) that did the business as they took five wickets apiece as the hosts were all out for just 108 after being well set at 44-1 with Akobe Earle (21) and Jordan Blanchard (18) at the crease.

Adam Lovejoy (2-23) and Aiden Gerry (2-18) then ran through the lower order, before openers Chris Pomeroy (39) and Jack Greening (60no) raced to victory in just 18.4 overs.

St Minver are sixth after a three-wicket success at Menheniot-Looe.

The hosts recovered from 0-2 and 79-5 to post 170 all out despite Reece Thompson’s 3-27 and a couple each for Alek Gill (2-30) and Jonny Centini (2-14).

St Minver were going well at 96-3 despite openers Ben Hawken (25) and Antony Ash (28) going when well set, and when Kelvin Lockwood was lbw for 37 at 124-6, it was game on.

But Archie Edwards (22no) was joined by Kieran Gill (15no) to get the visitors over the line.

James Turner made a brilliant 85 not out from 70 balls as Bude won a high-scoring contest at Lanhydrock.

The Bodmin club amassed 234-8 after being sent in, Jamie Eldridge and Ryan Beaumont making 42 apiece as Brett Hunter took 3-44.

Bude were in trouble at 106-4 despite 44 from Wayne Adams and Matt Whitefield’s 29, but Turner’s heroics with fine support from Lee Houghton (19) and stand-in skipper Matt Mansbridge (30), meant 19 points went up the coast.

South Petherwin’s struggles continue as they were thrashed by eight wickets at St Austell.

Petherwin were all out for just 74 as only Adrian Clements (22) and Sam Pengelly (15) reached double figures, before Ryan Bate’s unbeaten 51 got the Saints home.
