THE Clive Rosevear Insurance Hawkey Cup final is always one of the biggest nights of the Cornwall Cricket League calendar, and Werrington were involved in last week’s showpiece at St Austell.

Werrington headed down to the Clay Country looking to defend their crown against the home side, but despite an excellent comeback in both innings, it was St Austell that won their first title in 13 years.

Werrington and Callington were both in action in the ECB Cornwall Premier League on Saturday with contrasting fortunes.

Werrington won by 22 runs at Redruth despite the hosts reaching 125-0 in reply to Werrington’s 218-3, while Callington fell to a sixth successive defeat as Wadebridge won by 118 runs at Moores Park.

To make matters worse, Hayle picked up a surprise victory at St Austell to move off the foot of the table and leave Cally with plenty to ponder.
