Bus drivers working in the Bude area could face job loss or redeployment as their bus outstation is under threat of closure.

Stagecoach, which operates some routes in the Bude area, has said it is currently considering the future of the Bude outstation, where some of the buses and routes for the area are located.

A consultation has taken place with employees affected by plans to close the station, with Stagecoach bosses blaming a downturn in patronage and revenues for the closure plans.

However, they add that passengers will see little difference to their timetabled buses.

A Stagecoach South West spokesperson said: "The past year has continued to be very challenging for our business. Our industry faces a challenging market with reduced patronage, a decline in revenues and decreased concessionary travel. As a result, it has been necessary to evaluate the future of one of our smaller outstations located in Bude."

She added: "A consultation has taken place with those affected by this and any changes moving forward will not affect our customers or the delivery of any local services or timetables in the area.

"This internal change to how services are operated will impact a very small number of our employees and we are discussing with those affected what this means for them and how they can be accommodated in positions available across our operation."
